Covid-19 & Support for Families
The Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation is here for you.
To our Pitt Hopkins families, friends & entire community,
We know that this is a difficult time for so many. Given the growing concern with the Coronavirus and the fact that our community can be at a greater risk, we want you to know you are not alone in this!
We recommend following the guidelines of the CDC, which can be found on their website here. Individuals with Pitt Hopkins syndrome may be at a higher risk due to breathing issues, compromised immune systems, and other underlying health conditions such as diabetes and asthma. Communication difficulties also increases the risk for individuals with PTHS, as it is more difficult for our children to communicate symptoms quickly. All of these things should be taken into consideration and we recommend taking steps to protect yourselves and loved ones. Please consult with your doctor for their recommendations as well.
Along with protecting our health, many parents have found themselves turning into their child’s at-home teacher and therapist over night, which is no easy task! We have provided some free resources to you below that may be helpful during this difficult time. We also encourage you to share your ideas with the community on our Pitt Hopkins Education & Therapy Facebook group!
UPDATE: After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone our June 2020 Family Conference. We have been diligently monitoring the situation and are proactively making the decision to ensure the safety of our families and guests who would have been in attendance, as well as to ease the burden of any worry that our guests may have had regarding the decision to attend. All conference registration tickets will be refunded in full.
Lastly, we encourage you to stay positive during this craziness we find ourselves in. Find a way to laugh, know you are not alone, and please reach out if you need anything at all – even if it’s just someone to talk to! Our community is one of the strongest groups of people, and we have no doubt we will rally together during this difficult time, like we always do.
